Hello everyone. Im trying to get car inspected and wanted to change my trans mount. I cant find one for an 89 Vette anywhere. I tried ebay but Im too stupid and my computer is too slow for it to work for me. Does anbody know where I can just place a call and have this thing delivered to my house? Even Ecklers didnt have one. This is crazy.Thank you guys so much for the help!!
I feel a bang when I shift into second. It feels like it is under my seat. Where the back of the trans would be. I found the muffler bearings. I opted for the Inconnel 718. Chrome plated steel is too hard for the application Im using Im new to the Vette world.....does this car not have a mount? Its 17 degrees here and windy. Im not about to crawl under and check. No way jose! Ha ha.
You are going to have to get under there to see. But besides the u joints, check the bolts that hold the c beam to the transmission and the differential. Sometimes they are loose. Also check exhaust etc. passing through that area. BTW you did not say what year or transmission you have.

Refer the pic I posted for you above.
Rear of trans is supported by what we call the C-Beam ( file that for future reference on here ) that connects to the nose of the diff.
Autos and manuals use the same C-Beam arrangement
As noted if the bolts holding the beam to the trans are loose ( common ) then it allows the trans to move ; esp during shifts with a manual car
Its an 89' With an automatic. I tightened the bolts tonight and it made a huge difference. Thanks guys!! I still felt it ever so slightly when I am stopping and the trans kicks down. Overall an 85% improvement I would say. Maybe I have to get them a little tighter, but I didnt want to over do it. Im very glad I joined this forum. You guys rock! Maybe in the future I will upgrade to those bolts. Thank you for the link.

Torque the c-beam bolts to 55 ft/lbs in front (tranny) and 65 ft/lbs in back (differential). If you overtorque them, you can crack the tailshaft.

Concur!!!
And if its torqued to spec and still giving you issues .... remove the c beam and apply a good adhesive (liquid nails used to be the reccomended adhesive) reinstall c beam and torque to spec.
REALLY? I never knew that. I just tighten them until I feel a muscle cramp in my side....
Or, until the I'm worried if the car will fall off the stands!
Yeah, I read the fsm once. Another way is to brace two feet on the drivers side rear tires and tighten the bolts as much as you can until your face starts turning red and your vessels pop.
