I have little tiny spheres of oil in my coolant :cry :cry :cry :cry Cracked block?? :cry :cry I JUST refilled the coolant yesterday :nonod: :nonod:. The coolant that came out when i drained the radiator a couple days ago looked fine.
I checked the oil on the dipstick, and it doesn't look like there is water in it.. .but since oil is lighter than water, the coolant would be at the bottom of the pan. Looks like I'll be letting my $30 worth of Mobil 1 that i just put in there out again.
I pulled two plugs and they both looked like this:
Dont freak out too bad --do they have a pinkish tint?-- your trans cooler is the rad could be leaking a tad, or if there is an oil cooler in the rad that could be it too. It is pretty rare for a cracked block to do this --usually its the other way round (coolant in the crankcase). A cracked block is also pretty rare unless it froze without enough coolant antifreeze protection.

It's not red.. i poored some out into a bottle... i'll take a picture real quick. The coolant looks kind of brownish not the bright green i put in yesterday. I only changed about 1.5 gallons when doing the radiator .. i put in 1 gallon of distilled water and .5 gallon of coolant.
Gotta wonder if its not too much and whats not mixing in is gooping up on you? Ya know like when you put too much chocolate milk mix in yer milk.
It's honey colored just like the oil i put in last week. When i stick my finger in the coolant, the oil is attracted to my finger.. i pull it out and it spreads just like oil. I can see a colorful hue in the sunlight looking at the surface of the coolant in the pressure reservoir. :(
here are two pictures of the coolant. One with flash, one without (so you can see through the liquid). The little dark dots are little spheres of oil :(
Remember water wetter is a lubricant for the pump too --and if I remember your only supposed to use one bottle. I'm still leaning toward an over abundance of that. Clean it out as best you can and drive it normally while keeping an eye on everything. If it is an oil leak into the system it will increase exponentally.

Hmmm... waterwetter is just supposed to reduce the surface tension of water so that water molecules can get into the smaller spots of the uneven surfaced metal of the engine. If anything, I hope that this would only be a problem with the waterpump that it is letting oil in somehow, but I doubt it is.
Also, a side note, i have some kind of oil leak on the front of the motor.. not sure exactly where though. I get some oil spots on my hood where you would normally see coolant from a dead waterpump.
yup --im betting it has lubricants in it too tho. The water pump does not come in contact with any internal oil passages, and cant get oil in the coolant. Your oil leak is most likely the crank seal if your belt is slinging oil.
Ok, here is a sample of oil. On the left, oil from a brand new Mobil 1 15w50 bottle. On the right, oil I put in the car last week (VERY few miles on that oil) :(
The oil i just drained from the engine is obviously darker than it should be :nonod:
yes, those are orange juice glasses :). right now i could careless, lol.
The oil looks to clear, it would be cloudy if there was any water in it at all. What did the coolant look like that came out of there before? Any slime, oily residue on it at all? What does the water wetter instructions say about mixing with antifreeze/coolant, anything?
As per recommendation by a friend at the GM dealer .. i'm going to drain all the coolant out and replace it with just water. Going to keep an eye on it over the next day or so.
The conclusion that I am coming to is that the watter wetter losend up a crack and is letting the exchange take place.

It says you can mix it anyway you want pretty much.
