Is it possible to put a C6 knuckle on a C4?

Anything is possible, but probably not worth it. The C5/6 upper ball joints are upside down compared to the C4 so you would need a new upper control arm as well. It would be easier to make a caliper fit the C4 knuckle.

I put Viper 4 piston brembos on my car with C6 Z06 14" rotors. It was a pretty simple bracket too.

So if those are not J55s do you mind telling us what they are and where you got them?

Those are likely Mustang PBR calipers but I've never confirmed the width of the "throat" to be the same as the J55 GS "throat" and I've also never confirmed that the body has the additional support provisions.

You can use also the Mustang brackets but they would need machined for the 14mm hardware.

I bought out some brake parts from a shop and ended up with 6 sets of these calipers and brackets, several rotors, and some other little stuff. There are no more available where I got mine. Mine are lacking any markings other than the PBR patent numbers. The Mustang PBR brakes say COBRA on them where the GS calipers say CORVETTE. Mine are identical to the GS calipers in every way except color and markings. I've also seen them with BAER and SSBC. I have the correct Corvette brackets that have a fancy zinc finish.

I still have 2 sets of the calipers/brackets for sale in the sale section.

I'm quite confident those calipers in your image are mid '90s FOMOCO and should have 38mm pistons. The mid '90s FOMOCO stuff had no embellishments.

What year Viper are those calipers off of? Very nice and simple. Only thing I would change is making the L bracket a C bracket and made the bolt go through both sides. (Double shear vs. single shear)

The Mustang GT used a caliper that is totally different in design and mounting. The Cobra used the same caliper as the GS except it said COBRA on the side where the GS says CORVETTE. I've also seen BAER and SSBC on what appears to be the same calipers.

1990s Mustang GT calipers

Several companies appear to use these same calipers. If anything, mine look closer to the Baer than any of the others.

Mine fit a Corvette

They are from a GenIII Viper so like '00-'08 or something. I thought about the double shear, but every OEM and aftermarket caliper bracket is single shear as well so I dont see an issue with it. Plus its lighter!

Thank you!

For anyone looking to upgrade brakes these are <$300 each form the dealer (less than Wilwood or C6Z calipers) but I got them used pretty cheap. They also use an 18mm thick pad instead of the C5/6 16mm pad, and the axle set is $40 cheaper than C5/6 front pads (on the carbotech compounds I use). They are slightly larger volume but very close to the C5/6 calipers so brake bias would be similar to those. I did it for racing purposes, but they look cool for street guys looking to upgrade as well.

Excellent info. I assume you are just running C6Z rims? I'm running 17" C4 ZR1 wheels now with 315/35 and 275/40. Are those stock offsets? Pics of the fit?

Thanks a ton.

I will try to get some pictures of the fitment. I use OEM FRONT C6Z wheels with no spacers. 18x9.5 with a 40mm offset. I don't think 17" wheels will clear.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I'm looking for some confirmation.

I have an '84 that's a dedicated track car. I planned on changing the uprights to either an '85, '86, or '87 upright where the differences between is weather or not is has an ABS provision. I then planned on utilizing some of the brackets you can buy (or make) and utilizing a C5 or C6 (non z06) package. Other than requiring larger wheels for clearance, this is the way to do it, correct?

Thanks!

Yes - with the appropriate brackets the install is very straight forward. The ABS sensor port in the '86 & '87 can just be capped. You should NOT have issues.

Not sure what type pf pictures you were looking for, but these show both spoke clearance, and distance from the caliper to the inner barrel.

There is a little more than 1/8" spoke clearance:

The inside has a little less than 1/2". 17" wheels would be a super tight fit.

That looks awesome. Looks like I'll have to do this mod in the future, sure way to get cheap 14" brakes and Brembos. Now I just need to find an 18x11" wide wheel with the correct offset to fit the 315s on the back

thanks for all the pics, exactly what I was looking for!

Thanks for the compliments. If I can find my drawing for the brackets I'll send it to you.
