Fuel delivery

I have an 1984 Corvette. It is not pumping fuel. I put a wire in the ALDL G location and then connected the wire to battery. No pump noise. Changed pump. New pump is not working either. I even tried to run the pump by going directly to the pump. I connected a wire to the battery. Put a test lamp on the wire and then probed the red and yellow wire at the fuel pump. The pump did not turn on. What's up. I went directly to the pump. Why did it not go on. Oh and the fuse is good.
Really appreciate some help here. Thank you all.

How did you supply the power to the pump?
If you had the pump connector disconnected you would have no ground for the pump
