cooling fans

both fans are turning on well before the temp even reaches 80deg. sometimes sooner. i just replaced the opti..prior to figure' in out it was the opti i jumped both fan relays so they came on as soon as i turned the key(trying to help cool the engine)all was put back to norm. im thinking and hope'in the relays need changed. the temp. sensor was replaced aswell...any thoughts? Thanks

Let us know what year it is.

Based on the fact that it has an opti I remember helping a friend with his 1994 once. We found out that under certain conditions the LT-1 engine will turn both fans on to protect itself. Before replacing parts, try to do some more troubleshooting.

1992

1992 is the year...(my bad) the air and defrost are off. im thinkin of replacing the relays and see what happens..thanks for the reply's

One way to waste $$$
Unless the fans run as soon as you turn the key on then SOMETHING is causing the relays to operate;
they don't have a mind of their own.
You need to find out WHY the fan relays are being operated

If the fans are sometimes off and just come on sooner than they should, the problem isn't with a relay.

The scenario you described in your first post tells you the relay is working ok.

problem solved

i ran the car with the heater on thinkin there may have been air in the lines since i just drained all the antifreeze from changing the opti. dist. and after 15 minutes the fans work properly once again. thanks to all that gave me advice..
