Ok...got a new one here. Buddy at work runs a slightly modded Z28 with the L98 engine. He bought one of these Tornado air management systems and installed it a few weeks ago. He keeps telling me that he's noticed a slight performance increase off the line and is getting somewhat better gas mileage. Since we practically have the same exact engine, he keeps "encouraging" me to buy one of these things for my vette. I'm undecided and know of nobody else who has one in their corvette. It's not like I have $$ burning a hole in my pocket and I can think of better things to spend it on, but if anyone else has used one of these and can vouch for it, I'd love to hear about your experience!
Tell him to take it to the track or test it on a dyno. I know I wouldn't buy it unless there was documented proof it was worth it and I havn't seen any as of yet.
I'm amazed these things are still around. I got sucked into buying one of these years ago....nothing but junk! Oh and that Norm Lafave guy on the infommercials, he was running from the law a while back.

I'd put it up there with the gadget they have in the JC Whitney catalogs that puts a magnet on the fuel line to "line up the molecules".
Toddat, unrelated question, I was just wondering which Competion Cam you went with and what do you think. Also does it pass the Ca. Emissions with that setup?
Have any of you seen the infomercial on TV for them?
They make Corvette owners out to be idiots. They have this old guy in a White C4 LT-1 style Corvette in some scene like Miami, Florida. He's pimpin' it with a Hawaiian shirt with some blonde model who's probably half his age.
He goes on to say how he doesn't know much about cars, but that he "knows a lot about girls".
Then he talks about how his Vette feels like it has more 'juice', and that its so easy to install.
Hey, I just stuffed a bunch of scrap metal down my intake hose and doubled horsepower and mileage ......great concept and just as good as this Tornado suppository...

It was P/N 12-314-4 which was listed for 350 TPI motors with the stock computer. Pretty close to the stock grind I think and is 50 state legal. Had no problems passing emissions with it, the car ran very clean.
Side note on the cam: Two lobes went flat, #7 & #8 intake valves, after 3,000 miles. Don't know why, lubed it up and broke it in like the way they said to, and used the lifters and springs they said to. I called them up, said send it back, and they called me today to let me know they were sending replacement parts (cam & lifters). Even though I had to do a lot of extra work, I do like they way they've stood behind their products.
The question that SHOULD be burning a hole in the brain of everyone who sees such items is: "If it were so simple to make such power and fuel mileage increases, then for sure the OEM would be all over it - after all they spend billions only to see a fraction of the improvement that product X claims".
That last word "claims" is the important one, as they never seem to be able to replicate good results when the auto manufacturers are watching. Gee, I wonder why that is?
