Good day, yesterday I changed out rear speakers with no problems was able to locate speaker wires so I did not have to run wires from the deck back. Tried to do the same with doors and could not see the proper wires for new speakers. Only wires I can see are the 2 that were on the Bose speakers. Do I have to take out the old enclosure to find the wires so I can splice into them for the new speakers or is there an easier way to locate them? Or am I better off to try and fish new wires in from the after market deck to the door speakers? After taking door panel off it appears to be a big job to remove plate to get enough room to get enclosure out and would prefer to leave it in just in-case I ever put original non working system back in.
Thanks Agent 86 Looks like this will be a Saturday nice weather job with a six pack handy. Maybe a couple six packs, was wishing for an easy fix but guess not to many things are too easy on these cars.
I had to pull the enclosures out of my '89 to get the Bose amps repaired. The back ones were easy enough to pull, but the ones in the doors looked like a nightmare. It just looked that way at first, but wasn't that bad at all. I disconnected all the rods and wiring on or around the silver plate, then removed the plate itself. The enclosure, once loose, came right out. I guess at first sight you might think the window regulator and mechanism is going to be involved removing the silver plate. It isn't! The plate comes off real easy. Be careful when pulling the enclosure loose so as not to break the mounting ears. There is a sealant used around the mounting surface and once the screws are out you can use a small putty knive between the door and enclosure to break the seal loose. Work your way around the enclosure with the putty knive. The enclosure comes right out without a problem after that. It just looks worse than what it is to do. I had my amps rebuilt and the stereo sounds great now. I thought about replacing the whole system at first, but that is a bigger job with lots of problems. I'm glad I kept the orignal radio and speakers. Good luck with your project! Factory Car Stereo Repair in Florida rebuilt my amps for $80. each and were great to deal with. I live close by them, so turn around was next day.
It's after midnight and I hope I get this right. I have an 88. No need to run any wires. Behind the front Bose speaker is the wiring from the amp to the speaker (orange and Green) and the wiring from the amp to the wiring harness, 4 wires (2 solid & 2 striped). Be brave and cut the 2 striped wires. Tape up the 2 solids. Both are green but with different colors of stripe. Those are the 2 wires you need to attach non-Bose speakers. These green striped wire turn into solid colors at the main wiring harness just outside on top of the door speaker encloser. Underneath the dash you must know what colors go to each speaker. They are solid colors.
FR - grey/tan
RF - Dark green/green
LR - Brown/yellow
RR - Dark blue/blue.
When you unplug both rear wiring harnesses, you will see how the solid colors become Bose green striped wires. Just connect the fronts like the backs. This will keep you from pulling the speaker enclosure. I installed 4" 3 ways in front and 6x9" 4 ways in the back. I used a Dremel to get the new 4" front into the Bose speaker hole. You can just cut the metal on the speaker to fit the hole.
The rears were a piece of cake to hook up to original wires, the front well because I was to lazy to remove the aluminum plate in the door, I just removed the screws from it and slid my hand over to the bose box and managed to grab wires and snip off the ones I needed and everything turned out ok and works great. Thanks for the help.
