Default Performance chip any good?

Hi - I saw the ad for the "G Force Performance chip" for $69 - install it myself in 5 minutes. They make claims of 6 more HP, 7 more MPG. I was impressed by the fact that they have chip # 102300 for my 86 vert, and #102301 for a 86 coupe. So are they any good? Is there a better chip for (about) the same money? Thanks for any info.

Well it sounds like they are half honest...6 more HP. Most in the past said 50 more HP. And 7 MPG.....sure don't think that will ever happen. Most of what you get might turn on the fans earlier. Many have found that their new chip actually gave up a few ponies. The one that I was lured into years ago (the 50 more HP) ended up increasing the advance on the distributor when accelerating and reducing the fuel to the engine. The result was a ping that I could never resolve with resetting the base timing, octane additives and more .

I can't see any logic for have a chip for a coup and another for a convertible. Logic would tell me a chip for an automatic and another for a manual.

If you have a stock engine, you have nothing to gain. Save your money. If you are really sold on the idea of a new chip, then find a local tuner than can put the car on a dyno and have them burn a custom chip. You might find a couple of additional horses and perhaps .6 more MPG. Note that you can change heads, intake and exhaust in the majority of cases and the stock GM chip will handle the change. You really have to have a new chip when you change the cam. Add the new cam and then the above (heads, intake and exhaust) and you will 100% need a new chip.

Only benefit from one of these btdt

As said get some engine mods then a custom tune otherwise youre wasting your money. You wont see on iota of more power.

No thanks! I wanted to spend $69, not $690! Or more. I have found about 90% of these type ads are BS. The other 10% are lies.

Like the others have stated..........save your money.

Just think about it for a moment.......if those advertised gains were really that cheap & easy, the car makers (GM, Ford, Chrysler) would've already built it into their cars .

Save your money. It's just like the K&N Air Filters, doesn't make any difference, it just sounds cool to tell people that you have it.
