I'm building project Matador C4 to blow away Italian supercars. I'm planning to put a LS style engine with a magnum T56. The car is going to be a race car built to be used on the street. My inspiration was the Callaway C6 SuperNatural race cars. I'm using a 94 Corvette Coupe with 129,000 miles. The parking brake cables were frozen and fuel gauge wouldn't show lower than a half a tank. There was hidden secrets that I didn't see on the car.
The original plan for the car was to put a DRM chassis bar, gut out the interior, coilovers and modify the LT1. But I found some problems that I couldn't look the other way. The driver floor was repaired cheaply so rust was able to get to the frame. Magnesium chloride and salt was eating the paint on the frame. I also found a small dent on the rocker panel frame rail. So I knew I had to strip her down!
Finally pulled the engine this month! I'm selling everything I don't need for the project! I'm not going with the DRM bars so I'm selling them too!
PM me if you need something and your close to Maryland. I might have what you need.
Looking at the dismembered back end....
has anyone EVER done a mid-engine C4 project?
Trans-axles are available, V-drives...theres a bunch of space back there.. It would certainly be a costly experiment but an interesting one..The mid-engine Corvette fantasy has been around forever.
What suspension mods do you plan? It's fairly easy to build something that will beat other cars in straight-line. The twisties or on a road course is a different story. Suspension geometry and chassis stiffness are huge issues with a street-driven the C4.

Good Luck!
I'm going to install almost every suspension part emracing offers. I'm going to try to get the car under 2500 lbs. Thats with custom lightweight panels and almost everything removed. ABS, airbags, HVAC and ASR gone! Installing a custom chromoly roll bar that ties the whole frame together. I'm not going to put a full cage in because of head clearance. I'll be using 335 wide tires in the rear and 285 or bigger on the front. Oh for the street legal part it helps to have no inspection for older cars!
Here is some info on Callaway C6 SuperNatural FIA GT2. This shows how crazy you can build this platform! Its going to be a long project. I'm hoping to have most of the chassis done this year.
looks pretty good!! what other hidden secrets did you find in the car??
When I bought the car I had to drive it from Virginia to Maryland. I found out the exhaust was only installed with only the back muffler hangers. So my exhaust dropped down and was only 2 inches off the ground. My secondary cooling fan stopped working on me when I got caught in traffic. My brake light switch was sticking so it looked like I was riding my brakes. When I got it home I got under the car and found out that the exhaust had the oxygen sensor jammed into the clutch slave cylinder. Whoever installed the exhaust had no idea what they were doing.
When I was gutting the car I found this jammed between the center console and the transmission tunnel. So someone like keeping a gun ready!
