So here is what is going on with my transmission. I was driving my 93 c4 and it was shifting normal and had no problems. I shut the car off went into the store came back out went to drive and it would not shift until I reach high RPM's around like 3500 - 5000. My first thought was TV cable but when I checked it, it had not moved at all from when it was working ok. There is no slipping but it will not shift into overdrive and will not manually change gears like 1, 2, d unless it feels like it.. I am under the impression that it may be a stripped governor based on other posts I have read but I am not exactly sure what all the symptoms are of a bad one. I have also adjusted the TV cable every which way from sunday to no avail. If anyone has any idea what it might be or has been through this before PLEASE let me know!
Thanks a million!!
..... Sounds very much like a stuck / sticky governor to me ... its not hard to get at if you can get the car up a bit ... some exhaust systems get in the way but its on the side of the trans on the drivers side just forward of the tailhousing under the derby hat shaped cap ... pry it off with a skinny bar or screwdriver ... have a drainpan ready ... shouldn't lose too much oil if the car is level ... and pull it out ... check the gear condition and make sure that the plunger is still plunging freely ... squirt some brake clean on the moving parts and again , make sure its moving freely ... tight tolerances don't get along with lint or other fine particles ... slide it back in , put the cap back on with some RTV or a new seal ring and go for a test drive ........
Ok thanks! I am hoping that is what the problem is becuase I really did not want to pull the tranny and figure it out. I will probably get to changing it out tomorrow afternoon and I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again

After you inspect the governor make sure you adjust the TV cable using the procedure in the 93 FSM, it is unique to model years 92 and 93, incorrect adjustment can cause clutch failure. See my post #3 here if you do not have the FSM.
I agree with the others. Check the governer. I have never resealed a cap with rtv. The large 0-ring is meant to do the job and will seal. If rtv is used and the cap is removed a couple of times, the stuff may get into the inner passages of the tranny. Talk about shift problems...
