This may be a bit of a stupid question but how do I do a burnout in my 85 corvette? Is there a way to turn off the limited slip differential. I can't find a button anywhere and it does not say anything in the manual. All I seem to be able to get is some tire squeak. I can lay a 20 foot strip of rubber in my crown vic but can't in my corvette........
First of all auto or standard.
You can never turn off a LSD, it is a dif with friction plates in it so that one wheel cant spin hard with the other doing nothing.
Straight axle cars are easier to do them in
Vette was designed to stay planted
What you need is some real power behind you..
Or put your foot to the floor in N and drop it in D.
Post pics of parts in a bucket LOL
Personally I dont get the fascination with burnouts. its just super hard on parts.
ya want the car to hook and go...let the other guy spin and leave him sitting there.

I dont do burnouts alottttttttttttt.. But it just makes me mad that my old man car can spin more than the vette
Ok put the clutch in, rev up the motor to about 3500 rpm and dump the clutch. That's basic later you can start power braking but for now I think you should just stick to basic.
I burnout quite a bit and its just fun... Except for when I need tires
Have fun!

Ever had any problems with your vehicle from burning out? Other than replacing tires
Not in my case, it's hard on parts but not as hard has launches with slicks.
Losing traction isn't as hard on parts, it's when you gain traction and the drivetrain gets put under more stress.
Like most of these guys in here I want my rear tires to grab a hold of the asphalt when we hit that right pedal. Thats the fun of it. I get my kicks when I hit that little patch of gravel making a turn and it slides out a little on acceleration. I am in my 50's, This car is an all original 86 with only 19K with good tires. I would be an idiot to dump the clutch at 3000 on dry pavement. I might as well cheat on my wife because the girl would be in pieces on the pavement.
Man, and I wish mine wouldn't do a burnout! And that's with the Anemic 2.59 rear end, don't know what the hell I'm going to do with a 3.45.
You might be suprised. I had a fox body mustang with 2.73 gears back in the day. It was nearly impossible to launch..too little throttle, engine bogged, much more would overcome the resistance and spin the tires mercilessly. Sweet spot was in there but hard to find. Switched rear to 3.73 and launches were much easier. Sure, I could still easily spin the tires at will but with the new gears the engine rpm at launch was better aligned with the power band and it was just all around easier to launch and drive.
I remember when i was in my teens my older sister bought a 85 Corvette so took it for a test spin and had no problem roasting the tires in her Automatic untill she found out...

Yeah, I'll just have to watch the launches, but I want to switch for better throttle modulation in 2nd gear for autocrossing. 2nd gear blows with the 2:59.
