I have a 1986 Z51 automatic coupe that runs excellent except for one thing. When cruising on level ground and removing my foot from the accelerator, the car feels like it downshifts hard into a lower gear, almost like as if I were downshifting with a manual shift. When I put my foot back on the gas and push it feels like it upshifts hard into a higher gear. This only happens intermittently, sometimes in the same situation the car will smoothly decelerate to the lower gear then smoothly upshift upon acceleration as I feel it should. I have been told that my problem is the IAC. I had my current IAC replaced a short time ago and the IAC descriptions I've read here don't seem to apply. Has anyone else had this type of problem?

Probably a long shot, but I'd check the throttle valve (downshift) cable and make sure it is moving freely. If it were stuck in an extended position it could be commanding a part throttle downshift once governor speed drops low enough that it is no longer commanding an upshift.
Drivers side near the front of the intake. Think its the lower of the two cables if I recall. There is a process to it someone can post surely. Cant remember myself lol
