Don't know if this qualifies as forced induction but, I'd really like to get the best retro-fit cold air induction for my 85 with the LT/L98 conversion intake. Where can I get the one which works the best?
THanks,
JC

Not sure what you have now, but the stock intake on an 85 was a cold air induction.

Thanks for the reply. Now was it as functional as say, the ram air type inductions of the '60's musclecars? Does it make a bit of a difference? If not, is there one which does so? I'm trying to get this figured out before I finish my upgrades.
Next Phase will be a centifugal unit. Is there a model out there which is a reasonably easy install on an 85?
Dont know what you mean by functional. Purpose of a cold air induction is to pull cool air from outside the engine bay. C4 does that already. Ram air is something different. Usually requires a hoodscoop. Performance gains are difficult to measure. Some claim 5hp. Keeping in mind that you gain nothing from it off the line.

Yes I was looking for some RAM type of pressure assist w/o immediately going to a surpercharger....I am not a stoplight racer so off the line does not matter to me. I want the assist at mid to high rpm range when accelerating out of turns. I was hoping there was a kit or mod I could use to gain the pressure assist from the front plate cover area.
I'm going to vnt the hood to ge rid of some of the excess heat but not going to put a scoop up there. Looks s though I'll have to wait untlthe centrifugal project to have the RAM effect.
Thanks, Doc. I'll take 2 aspirins and call in the morning
Aero improvements start working at about 55 mph. Ram air does certainly help (made a surprising difference on my C5) but if it's nose mounted you run the risk of ingesting water directly into the intake from a big splash or even in a car wash (I skipped buying a C5 that had an engine replaced due to the car wash scenario).
A good ram air intake will certainly help, but since the C4 is old there aren't any new ones available any more. The most common setup used a funnel shaped scoop that replaced the license plate, then tubing to go up to the MAF.

Quick Google search found these pics:
Thank you. This really helps. Since I can do all my own work again, I can cut and fab what I need for the lower front intake. I do my own wash, detailing etc. and don't take it out in the rain it shouldn't be a water problem. I think that ICE(getting caught out in a flash storm, I'll fab up a clip on deflector so we can drive between the raindrops.
