Default Telescopic Steering wheel adapter

I'm thinking about swapping the steering wheel in my 89 and I've done some searching on here and from what I can tell GM used the same spline for alot of their cars. I found this telescopic adapter on ebay but there isn't much information on it so I wasn't sure if it would work.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/160949017853...84.m1438.l2649

I saw that the Momo #2702 adapter is commonly used but all the ones I found were over $100.

Going to depend on the # of mounting holes and the bolt circle diameter in the wheel you want to use.

Lecarra makes really nice wheels & adaptors they may have what you need.

I was thinking about using a Nardi wheel I have and the one on ebay says its made for Nardi so I don't think that would be an problem, I was more worried about the steering shaft splines and the telescopic function. I'll check out Lecarra too.

Update: just got a message back from the seller on ebay and they said that it's 36 spline so from what I've seen that should work. I haven't messed with telescoping columns before, are they pretty standard?

Just for reference sake the Nardi adapter I ordered off ebay fits on my 89. It fit on the steering shaft fine but it doesn't have the contacts to work with the horn spring so the horn doesn't work currently. The Nardi horn button is a generic two wire setup so I could rewire the horn if I felt like it. The stock telescopic lever from the original setup will work but I had to put it on backwards and it took a little adjusting so it doesn't bind against the adapter. There are also no threaded holes to use a steering wheel puller on so you would need to use an outside puller on it or some other setup if you ever needed to take it off again.

I had to put small washers between the center screw and the lever so it was spaced back slightly and also had to file a little off the bottom of the **** so it didn't hit the top of adapter. I might make a custom lever at some point but this will work for now and will be easy to return to stock if I ever need to.

Other than those issues it functions well and I like having the bigger steering wheel. I haven't seen many Nardi wheels on corvettes but I've had this wheel on a couple other cars of mine so I'm glad I was able to get it to work for pretty cheap.

Yeah I'm not big on most of the modern aftermarket wheels either. The stock wheel was nice but I like adding some of my own touches to a new car. I originally got the wheel out of an old mercedes and have run it in a couple of vw bugs so I've gotten used to the feel of it. It kind of matches the interior colors too so I'll run it for awhile and see how it does.

It's good you've got a previous "feel" for it because the larger diameter would give some "fits"! It does appear to be a good match to the car interior though.

Nice job.

I sure miss the telescope column I had in the 89, air bag 90 model = tilt only.

Hi..

How would you rate the quality of the hub unit?

It seems quite cheap compared to some other aftermarket hubs, even the non-telescoping ones. Fancy one of these myself for my '87, but the sellers -ve feedback is making me wary of the quality..

Cheers..

It's definitely not top of the line stuff but it's also not a particularly complicated part. It fit the splines fine and other than having to modify the telescoping lever it went in without a hassle. You will lose the horn though because the contacts are different. Didn't bother me though and if I ever get motivated I might just rewire it to a push button somewhere.
