Hi, just started to clean the old weather strip from my windshield and the rear halo (is that what that is?). I did 2 things that helped tremendously. After ripping out as much of the old weather stripping and scraping it a bit. I got some of those half sheet paper towels and folded them lengthwise a little bigger than the weatherstrip track, laid it on the track and tucked it in with a knife, then I soaked it with 3m adhesive remover. After letting it soak for 15 minutes or so it scraped out a lot easier.
The other thing I did was to get a paint can opener, kinda like a screwdriver with a 90 degree hook in the end. I used it to scrape the underside of the lip in the weatherstrip track. I thought I did a good job the 2nd time after soaking in adhesive remover. With the opener, I still got a lot more out?
Does it really need that much adhesive to form a good seal? When I put my new Willcox weatherstripping in, I don't want to overdo it with adhesive but then I don't want it to leak either. Thanks
I worked way too hard cleaning that crap out. I dont think I glued the new one at all. That was 4 years ago. Still all good.
I havent taken the top off either.
Same here with trouble getting the old stuff out. Almost makes you want to just buy replacement metal strips to put the new weatherstrip into. I used a heat gun on some parts. That seemed to work really well if you use a putty knife or screw driver right after heating it.
