The other day after work when I started the car I noticed that the heater display was off and started getting the SYS flashing. When I got home, I checked the fuses and found the upper left fuse blown. I replaced it and driving to work the next morning, everything was peachy keen. When I came out from work, I opened the door and the courtesy lights came on. By the time I was in the seat, they were off and I heard the pop of the fuse blowing. Sure enough, when I started it up, the heater display was gone again. Before I look at the schematics and start troubleshooting, I thought I would post here and see if anyone has experienced this before and could tell me where the most likely place would be for a short on this part of the electrical circuit. I had not inserted the key or turned anything on when the fuse blew. Just opening the door blew it. My first guess would be a wire going into the door shorting against something metal inside the door, but that seems a little farfetched. Thanks for any input.
Not far fetched at all. What year do you have? Have you pulled the door panel off and checked the wiring for breaks or chaffing? You're a bit lucky in having a specific symptom linked to your problem....the door being opened and closed. Shorts can be a real bear to track down.
You didn't say which fuse blew, but I would bet it's the CTSY/CLK (might have a different name for your year). It controls a lot of stuff that's "hot" all the time.
I think the cigarette lighter socket is your prime suspect for a problem.

Happens all the time either the socket goes out or someone drops a coin in it.
Yes, it's the CTSY fuse. I looked at the schematic last night but didn't see the cigarette lighter. Hopefully, I'll get some time this weekend to troubleshoot. Thanks for all the suggestions so far...
