Muffler Clamp Bolt Torque Spec ????
Does anyone have an exact torque spec for basic steel muffler clamps ?
Seems every time i try to tighten the bolts either they are too loose and get exhaust leaks or i over tighten them and bend the pipes.
Thanks!

According to Google ...... 40 to 80 ft. lbs. -- varies per manufacturer of clamp (not much help).
My experience has been to torque until you see the pipe indent, then
grab a beer.

I believe there has never been a muffler clamp that has been torqued in the past 20 years. They are not supposed to be torqued; just tightened.

What about the muffler bearings? I hear they can squeak if over tightened.

Not an aprils fools day question i was serious !
It seems rebuilding an engine is easier than something as simple as not over tightening a muffler clamp bolt !

Maybe the guy at the local muffler shop can help.
I'm wondering what he sets his air impact at?
