My primary cooling fan doesn't come on...ever (I think). But when I use the paperclip to pull codes it does. What is this telling me? I have used the manual trying to determine that the system operates as it should, but I can't make the fan come on except by using the paperclip.
Pulling the codes and the fan comes on tells me that the fan motor is okay.
It could be the relay that's bad or it could be that you're still using the stock PROM turn on temp and you haven't let the engine idle long enough to reach that temp.
You can bypass the PROM control in a couple of ways; install a manual toggle switch or one of the kits sold by Eckler's/MidAmerica and others to cause the fan to come on at a lower temp.
Let it idle for awhile and I bet it comes on. The temp gauge in my girlfriends 90 roadster is almost pegged when the fans come on, but my datamaster says the coolant temp is 225 or so. Her gauge is off a little bit I think.
