Default 96' Oil Leak

While changing out my O2 sensors I notice the passenger side front sensors connector was oily. What would cause a small leak on the right top side rear of an LT-1? It is a small amount and never makes it to the ground but now would be a good time to fix it.

sounds like a valve cover leak,if it never gets low between changes you don't need tro be in a hurry to fix it

It's on jack stands for the next few weeks. After I get it on the ground I'll see if I can find where. After reading about others having this problem I hope that's all it is.

It's a '96. That means it's the rear of the intake manifold were it meets the block..

Is this something that just needs tightened or do you have to pull it and reseal.

You can try to tighten it, but its really just a 2 hour job at most to remove the intake manifold and re-seal.

If that's all I'll just do that. Is there are walk thru available or a list of parts, seals, sealants?

I would recommend getting the factory service manual for your year. It will make future repairs a lot simpler and answer questions you might have.

Here is 96GS#007's method. This is the method I used.

On the LT1/4 it's not a big deal.
- Pull off the "CORVETTE" beauty covers.
- Disconnect the various electrical connectors
- Remove the nuts that hold the electrical harnesses to each side of the intake
- Move the harnesses out of the way
- Remove the 4 bolts that hold the fuel rail in place
- Remove the fuel rail/injector assembly from the intake (leave attached to fuel lines and simply set it on a towel on the windshield)
- Remove the throttle body and the throttle cable
- Remove throttle cable bracket
- Remove any misc items/hoses...PCV valve & hose, AIR connections, EGR (on the LT1), etc.
- Remove the intake manifold bolts
- Remove manifold & old gaskets

- Clean, clean, clean the sealing surfaces
- Clean intake bolt threads
- Install new gaskets
- Apply RTV sealer to the block for the end seals
- Set intake in place. Apply liquid teflon to the intake bolt threads and torque bolts per Factory Service Manual specs and sequence
- Reassemble the remainder in reverse of above

That pretty much covers the major stuff.

3 to 5 hour job. 2 or slightly more if you can really spin the wrenches and everything goes your way.

Thanks. That's perfect. I was planning on replacing all the fuel injectors with the FIC Bosh III's so this is just slightly more work. Of course once I get it off the jack stands I'll try and trace the leak to be sure. That and I have some iridium spark plugs I want to install. That is all I planned to do engine wise. Maybe new wires. They are the originals but the engine runs fine so I figure just leave things alone.

I still have a lot of work on the suspension and it will be several weeks till I get it on the ground. Once I do I'll try and find the source. It is very little, but from past experience I know it will get worse. The car has less then 60k miles on it and has always been leak free. It is only because I was replacing the O2's that I even know it is there. At this point it really isn't a problem but my plans were to replace Injectors so that would be as good a time as any to fix this. Once I find it I'll post what it is.
