My Craftsman torque wrench died and I want to get a good one. I've been looking at Snap-On they have a couple, the regular adjustable click version (QD3R150) and the thumb wheel model (TQFR250C). Any suggestions?
Scorp,
No problems with clockwise only? How often does it REALLY need recalibration? If you had a choice would you get it or the QD3R150?
The QD3R150 goes from 30-150 ft*lb, the TQRF250C goes from 40-250 ft lbs. Which would you miss, the lower range (30 vs 40) or the higher range (150 vs 250).
The QD3R150 does both clockwise and counter clockwise. I don't think I'd miss the counter clockwise reading, do you?
The handle just fell off and a spring came out. I wonder how accurate it can be if it falls apart like that. I've had it for a couple of years, so no chance to return it. Who cares, I'm ready for a good torque wrench.
I use the Snap On "click" type. They are pretty expensive, but certain things, like torque specs, are pretty important to me.... :)
FYI... Torque wrenches only become really accurate in the upper 70% of measure. In other words, if you have one that goes from 50 to 180 foot pounds, it will not be all that accurate at 60 foot pounds...
THat is according to Snap On. Of course, they might just want me to buy more wrenches... :) :)
I looked at Snap On, Mac, and Matco. I ended up buying a Mac. Very happy with it. I think it is better made than Snap On and it was a few bucks cheaper. Check them out. I also had a Sears that broke and I was surprised to learn it only had a 90 warranty. Don't buy Sears torque wrenches!
