Hi my friend. I change my harmonic balancer abour a year ago.. first you have to stop the motor from turning.

the easy way for me was to stop the number one piston, by using a top dead center tool.

at the time I did not had this tool so i use the rope method. that consist, by introducing a rope into tho the number one cylinder into stop, at that point the engine is lock, and you can remove the bolt on the harmonick balancer.

top dead center tool look some like this

Is it in gear ? are the rear wheels on the ground? is the parking brake set ? usually thats enough to lock up the drivetrain / engine and prevent the crankshaft from turning.
