identified possible weakpoint on c4 front susp: outer control arm attachment points
Im in the process of replacing my lower control arm with brand new ones (that have global west delrin bushings instaled).
This is on my 93 vert.
I finally got both control arms out.
Whle removing the lower control arms, I couldnt help notice that the outer wall of the control arm brackets (attaches control arm to frame of car) are just thinly stamped sheet metal.
I could see the outer bracket walls deforming as I was trying to finagle the control arm out.
How in the world is that supposed to hold camber? during track use on slicks, etc.?
Was GM really that stupid? No wonder everyone that tracks the c4 calls it a wet noodle.
or is there something im not understanding here...
Im tempted to get some reinforcement plates made and weld them up to the outer bracket wall to get some more strength... Though I am worried that if they really are that weak, that the setup will just bend somewhere else - like at a point beyond where I can add a reinforcement.
The inner walls of the control arm brackets are double the thickness and appear stronger... they are not my concern..
Im surprised this has never come up here in discussion over the decade ive been trawling this forum...
