Default New Fuel Injection

Got tired of the blow through and want to run injection again. Im running a turbonetics TC76 turbo on a 406CI small block.

I was thinking of running TPI again with a holley HP efi controller. I know the stock TPI runs out of breath at 5000rpm. Is that still the case with boost?

I was also considering the Professional Products fuel injection. There is some appeal to having the system setup in a few hours.

Any better ideas? LT1, LSX?

I would look at a Mini ram from TPIS.

The long tuned port runners torque will diminish above 5k while the boost is bulding so what you end up with is a flat torque curve at high rpm.

The mini ram torque curve is flat when NA and when you put boost into the equation you will end up with a rising torque curve because a centrfugal blower builds more boost at higher rpm.

The mini ram torque curve is better matched to the progressive boost of a centrifugal blower.

I dont know for a fact but I would bet a stock tpi would be down 50 to 100 hp peak with a blower vs a mini ram type setup.

I have been looking at the Mini Ram. Nice but pricey. I think for the cash, an LT1 conversion would be a better bang for the buck.

lt1 intake is ready to convert, cost next to nothing now days and will have all of the required brackets and rails to ruin your fuel system to. much easier for maintenance over the tpi. and much better suited rpm band for that sized turbo.

for better distribution you might look at the edelbrock Vic jr efi. I have seen very affordable 4 barrel throttle bodies on eBay. as for a computer, best bang for the buck is megasquirt. far better control then the Holley and uses all gm sensors , think they even have plug and play harnesses for universal gm stuff now too.

Good luck sounds like a fun project!

Boosted or not 4800 is about the limit for stock ported TPI system. Do yourself a favor and go with a mini ram.

X2. Increasing manifold pressure doesn't change the runner's harmonic frequencies in any meaningful way.

As an example, look at '80's TPI Callaway cars. Peak hp was below 5000 in spite of plenty of pressure in the intake. Boost doesn't change the shape of the tq curve (much)....it just raises it across the board. So with TPI, you'll end up w/a sub 5000 RPM "TOWAK MONSTAH"...just like Callaway did.

Are you using the megasquirt?
