I've dont the inner sweeps on the prior '88 so no issue there but had the outer ones done at purchase.
This '88 Vette needs both inner & outer sweeps and I am a bit confused as to how the outers attach and how to remove the old ones.
I see 5 "clips" along the new sweeps but not sure how these attach onto the door.
I don't want to mess up the sweep retainers in the door, so any insight as to how to replace them is greatly appreciated.
BTW, my GM Shop Manual and the www didn't provide much info on this job.
I remember '65Z01' from way-back, and you were helping hundreds of forum members solve their problems. I posed as 'Oldman' then,
but since passing age 80, that moniker is no longer relevant.
I replaced mine (89) a few weeks ago. That write- up pretty well covers it, just one tip I want to throw in. Be sure, very sure, that the holes in mldgs align with the holes in the door before you snap in the clips. Once those clips snap into the door, it's almost inpossible to adjust the mldg fore/aft.
I've read a few posts where some people have said they had problems also. Mine just snapped down with moderate pressure. Do these have the 3 fingers on the clip?
Yes, the clip style looks exactly the same as the OEMs.
I may have distorted the clips trying to press them into the slots in the PS door, so I tomorrow plan on freeing the front clip and removing the sweep. Then I can comapre clip conditions with those on the DS door sweep.
