Default Horsepower Expectations: LT-1 Build

Doing a 95 LT-1 build for a friend

-1.6RR
-Long tube OBX headers
-3"Magnaflow exhaust
-Fully Ported heads: 2.00 intake 1.56 exhaust
-Ported LT-1 intake
-54MM TB

Any thoughts? I was thinking maybe 360 crank???

If I go with an NA build, I'd have "Advanced Induction" port the stock heads and intake. Possibly even have then match a cam for your objectives. This is, if its in your budget. You'd be surprised of the results!

All that work and not even a "hot cam"?? Is a lot of labor, and you're going to be "in there". Affordable, popular grind cams are usually budget friendly. With that said, if he insists on a stock cam, I wouldn't expect "too" much improvement.

The stock cam will hold you back bigtime. I would seriously consider a cam swap with all the work you are doing. Even a mild hotcam would probably get you close to 400 flywheel hp.

I don't think you will hit your goal of 360 HP with your list. The exhaust on the LT1 is pretty good as it is.

The LT4 is about 330 with 1.6 RR, a more aggressive cam , .4 additional compression, but your proposed changes to the valves would match the LT4. I don't know if your worked over heads would match the 240 flow of the LT4....but lets say that your close. So your basically at the level of the LT4, less a few horses because of the cam......so lets just say 330. Then add perhaps 10-15 for the headers to get you to the 340-345 mark. I really don't see you getting to the 360 mark without changing your cam.

So 420 crank w/cam.....(360 wheel)

I agree I would rather swap in a cam, but he wants to wait.

My 92 laid down 391rwhp with just headers, exhaust, and ported intake; not even tuned

Sounds like a bit of an optimistic dyno.

Without knowing what his heads are doing theres no way to really say.

Tell him to pony up a few bucks to have them flowed will help for a cam upgrade down the road so hes not shooting in the dark.

Hope for the best but I dont see 360 happening.

I thought the headers would give alittle more. The heads should outflow the LT-4. I opened up the port, maxed the pushrod pinch area, straightened out the wall, flattened out the port floor, took down the valve guide, and using Manley Race Valves.

Should be interesting, I am thinking he will let me do the cam this winter.
