The same way your Fuel Pressure Regulator Diaphragm ruptured.
Age has a lot to do with it. Your Vette is 27 years old!
Components lose elasticity, shrink and crack over time especially when subjected to High under hood temps!...
Just like your skin...
Sorry, I can't resist having fun with this...
The fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is flexing constantly while the engine is running. I found that out when I put a mechanic's stethoscope on it.
I'm pretty sure the O-rings are neoprene. The technology has come a long way and these things hold up much better than they used to when they were made out of rubber (synthetic or otherwise).
I'm painfully aware that my car is 27 years old when I try to buy parts for it, especially those wonderful GM molded hoses. I had to buy a used oil cooler hose and a used PCV valve hose. I'm still looking for the hose that goes from the throttle body to the PCV air supply line (on the passenger side).
My skin isn't exposed to high under hood temps -- at least not often or for very long.
I have a 1990 Corvette and I ordered some from Bowtie in Langley BC, Canada. They ordered me in 5 injector clips for 32.00 CAD and the part is number is 17111267 and they are made by Delco. So they are available and obtainable. Just type into google the part number and you will see a picture of them, they are identical to what I have.
well, previous poster must have searched back real far to dig up this 5 1/2 year old thread.
And it's good that he did, this discussion, the included information, and the numbers provided become more and more important as time goes on because the injectors, regulators, o-rings, and other fuel system components continue to age and deteriorate in these old Vettes. I'm going through this replacement-refresh procedure right now and I'm sure many other Vette owners are doing the same. Many thanks to all that have posted here regarding this important subject.
