Greetings everyone, The window switch on my 86 is shot. It looks like it will be pretty easy to get to. Any ideas for a replacement part.
Seems like the stock control has a slip toggle type thingy. ( forgive my description).
Also , Both windows are really slow, anything I can clean and or lube in there?
Thanks Gents and ladies too. Happy weekend tinkering
The window sw has a number of "prongs" that plug into a socket. Over time both the prongs & socket contacts can become oxidized. Try cleaning the contacts to see if function is returned.
The slow window could be gunk buildup in the mechanism or a tired motor.
The slow window is probably because you have an older C4. The engineers put in small motors with a high gear ratio to save weight. You can upgrade to the later window regulators. They are much faster and just bolt in.
The window switches are available at the usual Corvette parts suppliers. The connector is pretty hard to get off because the contacts carry a lot of current and they grip pretty tightly. The same switch is also used for the power door locks, if you have them.
Cliff is correct, I believe the 86 had the motor that used a plastic ribbon which was very slow... You may be able to find used motors on ebay or almost any of the Corvette parts sites have them..Just make sure you get the newer style without the ribbon.......WW
