Im finally going to do the gear change. Where can I get the best price? part #'s? any additional parts needed? And finally, any good local DFW shops for the install ? What does all of this usually run $$$???
I got mine at the Dodge dealer. They make "0" noise. I have heard that some others do after awhile. I got my speedo gear from LPE.
You will love em !!

Toms makes zero noise. Richmond makes a set that is designed to be used for higher performance applications so its stronger but makes the design makes it noisy.
Actually, the Richmond gears are weaker than the Viper 4.10:1 gears - its all in the pinion gearshaft. Our Corvette Dana 44's use a pinion shaft size the same as on the Dana 60, the Richmond gears are true Dana 44, so they must use a pinion shaft spacer sleeve to fit in the Corvette.
I bought my gears from Al Kindler and installed them 2 years ago. Best mod I ever made. I put about 2,500 miles/year on the car, including a little bit of 1/4 mile action and some autocross. I did the R&R of the pumpkin and had Chris Reinhardt's dad (Paul) do the setup for me. They're nice and quiet, no gear whine. It's all in the set-up.
You'll need the following parts...
- Gears...~$300 delivered from Al
- Speedo Correction (I used gears from LPE)....~$150 (can also use an HPP+ for ~$330 or a Cyberdyne Unit for ~$125)
- Gear Lube & GM Limited Slip Additive...~$20
- Install can be up to $600 depending on the shop.
While you're in there, it's a good time to check the u-joints (driveshaft and halfshafts), especially if you have a lot of hard miles on them and the rear shocks.
Make sure to mark the location of the camber cams or your first stop will be the alignment shop.
