Well after breaking another stub axle I was ready to go solid rear. But once again I just can't do it. I don't think I will be happy with the ride hight, and don't want to cut up the floor. The car is real low and like it like that.
I thought about getting a C5 and start building a new racer. But I'm going to try one more thing. I'm going to have the Sommers Brothers 300M stub axles made.
The rear now will have the Detroit locker posi, Denny's Steel half shafts, spicer solid ujoints joints, and the new stubs. We shall see!!!

How much of a hassle is that an what would be a rough estimate in price? Iv been considering going back to a Camaro just for the solid axle, but if I could put a solid axle in this that would be ideal
Your easily looking at 6-7g with a 9" kit. I Was ready to do it but I don't want to cut it up. If the axles don't work I will put the stick back in it and drive it on the street more.
I also looked into the Sommers Brothers stub axles. I am pretty sure another forum member has them and had to re-weld them.
You are right about cutting up the car (to keep it low) as I was recently talking with the person doing my 9" and it looks like the axles are very close to the frame rails with very little room for travel (chassis guy tells me not to worry as we will figure it out). Another challenge is going to be the exhaust as there is no room for it to go above the housing (most are running it below the housing). Not sure how that would work driving it on the street.
The bolt in kits are nice-But the car will sit high in the back (and IMHO does not look right).
I have seen a few sets of the Summers Bros outer stub axles and they are way bigger than stock. Better material as well. I don't think you'll break them but you will probally find the next weak link. Like someone said you will probally need to have it welded on the inside where they press the old yoke on the end of their new shaft.
