So... recommendations?
The codes for many OBD I vehicles can be obtained by using a paper clip. I know the '84 I had the codes could be obtained this way.
Well, I was going to recommend my AutoXray 6000 to you, but you already have the better 7000...I do like the 6000 scanner though.....What's wrong with the one you have???.WW

This is my second autoxray, I had the 4000 before ( the olive green one..I think that was the number) but it was stolen. I liked it, never had an issue. Lately though I'm seeing problems with their customer support. My 7000 isn't compatible with the autoxray pc software, they have a different program specifically for the 7000 which doesn't seem to work well with Vista. For my 94 there are some software errors with the scanner ( wrong units and things like that) so I'm not entirely confident in it. It's ok, but I'm seriously considering going back to the other model.
I'm looking for more than a code reader... I'd like a scanner and the ability to see and record the data stream.
Another option would be to get Datamaster and the connection wire to use on your laptop...I also have this setup from when I installed my 383 engine and used it to Datalog for tuning..This is the best setup as far as Im concerned...There is no handheld unit out there that will give you as much info as Datamaster, everything is stored in a file that can be saved and viewed later, and the playback speed can even be adjusted for when your having engine trouble and need to check out what the sensors are doing frame to frame...It's the ultimate scanner.....WW
If you want to work on OBD 1 and OBD 2 stuff may I suggest looking on ebay for a used snap on tool. Like the mt2500(the brick) the solus or the solus pro. But know this up dates can cost big $ so get one with the latest you can. These are not just code pullers they can do so much moor. Want to know moor? Try this do a Google search for a guy called scanner danner and watch some of his vids. You might find them interesting! Good luck
