I have a 96 and I recently changed out the water pump and now I have a couple trouble codes. One was for the coolant sensor and the other had to do with the air injection system. I was able to connect a scanner to get the codes initially and then I changed the coolant sensor and the light came back on. Now I cant interface with the DLC. Is there a fuse just for this? I looked through all the underhood fuses as well as the fuse box and the fuses all visually looked ok. I dont have any experience with electrical so I am struggling with this and am not sure where to look. I have an FSM but I dont even really understand the diagnosis directions, like using a voltmeter etc. I am going to take it in but I thought maybe I could rule out a few things first with your help. It needs to go through emissions so it will fail with the light currently on. How can test the DLC,, what can I look for as to why it is not connecting to the scanner? thanks
actually I think its called the ALDL not the Data Link Connector which just proves my ignorance on the subject. anyway, I am talking about the port that you would plug the obd scanner into. Thanks and sorry about that
If your problem is your code reader has no power when connected
to the ALDL it could be a blown fuse.
I'm looking at a 95 service manual so it could be different for a 96.
On the diagnostic connector above the drivers right knee
12 volts is on Pin 16 and is used to power a code reader.
Fuse #36 RH CTSY 5 amp fuse could be blown. It's in the
passenger side end of dash fuse panel first row on the left 2nd
from the bottom.
An indication the fuse is blown is the RH and LH door lamps
will be off and LH and RH footwell lamps will be off when
the door is opened.

great advice, I just checked and had no lights. I found a blown 10 amp fuse in that spot so now I have to go back to advance auto and see if the scanner will work. Thanks. also, if I put a volt meter in the pin 16 slot then I should get 12 volts there right? so would that be another way of checking the aldl? Thanks again
