I am about to order a custom chip for my 1990 Vette, and the guy told me that I need a scanner for the computer to set throttle position, get air/fuel ratios, etc. Where do I get one, and how much are they? Do I need a cable and software for my laptop too? Thanks in advance!!
Re: Scanner for computer information??? (CarNDrvr)
My $.02...
A good ALDL cable/adapter will run ~$90...Craig Moates has a great freeware software program to monitor engine performance...
But before buying an aftermarket chip...
Go over to our ECM Forum and listen in for a bit; then check out the 3rdGen PROM Forum...There are guys on both who can & will burn you a custom chip for *your* motor...
Or you can do like a lot are doing and buy the chips, burner, cable & software and do it yourself...
