I have removed the valve covers for cleaning and painting and mostly to change the gaskets due to leakage I will probably remove the plenum for the same, not leakage just cleaning and painting. I have a 1985 with 16000 original miles I am looking at the injectors and trying to decide should I change them. The car runs fine, but I'm just thinking why not. I live about 30 miles from Summit racing they have a set of Trick Flow 24lb. in stock. Any thoughts on this is, it worth it are Trick Flow any good? I don't want to wait too long I may forget how it goes back together. Thanks
Usually on stock tpi's we go with 21lbs, and yes if your injectors are old do change them. John a forum vendor is mostly used when buying. If you take the fuel rails off and have the time you might want to clean those up and change all the o-rings too.
The 85 uses 24 pound injectors, go with the same. I would contact Jon at FIC (form vendor). He has a very good reputation on this Forum for helping members with their injectors.
If you are going to remove the runners, label each bolt as you remove it there are long and short bolts. There are also a couple of bolts UNDER the plenum once you remove it that holds the runners to the intake manifold.
When you assemble, be sure to use anti-seize on any bolt that goes into aluminum.
Thanks guys. I got the plenum and runners off. I hope I can get this back together with no parts left over. I do have the service manual. I notice most of the bolts aren't all that tight I will look in service manual and find the proper torque.
I've only used the torque wrench on the base-to-head bolts, the rest of the intake doesn't seem to be too sensitive so long as you do not over-tighten and strip any threads.
