I have a 96 lt1/auto and want to swap in a lt4/m6.
What would this involve?
Would want to change everything in the lt1 car.
I have a sound lt4 but the body isn't so good.
Rear end - trans - engine - pedals - gauge cluster would be swapped.
What I'm not sure of is the wiring harness, steering column...
Would I have to change the whole wiring harness? Or is there just additional wiring harnesses that attach to the main harness if you have an auto or stick?
Should I pull the steering column to change the pedals and wiring?
Is there any threads to help me?
Any help old be greatly appreciated
What year is your lt1 car? If both are the same model year, you'd be ahead of the game ( more similarities with electrical details). Otherwise, you can swap all the external components off your lt1 onto your lt4 engine (timing cover, belt drive components, etc.), and then just focus on the transmission swap (pedals, tunnel, computer tune). This way you eliminate the hassle of merging two harnesses all together. You'd essentially end up with lt4 driveline into an LT1 car.
Honestly, you'd save yourself time/money buying an lt4 car you "do" want and selling the two cars you currently have.
I just did a ZF swap on my 93 LT-1 that had an auto. I used new parts, except where they weren't available. Then I used a reputable salvager on this forum. With the money I spent I could have bought another used C4. However, I learned a lot and can say I did it myself. It took me longer to patch the tunnel than it did to remove and install all the components. My attention to detail and while I'm in there projects made it seem a lot longer than it could have been.
Would I have to change the whole wiring harness? No
Or is there just additional wiring harnesses that attach to the main harness if you have an auto or stick? I cut the plug off the harness that connects to the auto, then spliced / connected the appropriate wires to the clutch pedal and the back up light switch.
Should I pull the steering column to change the pedals and wiring? No. I would remove the drivers seat, drivers bolster panel, and the metal cover behind it. Unbolting the gas pedal helps also. Then you need some light and patience. A helper is recommended when you do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - If you decided to do this, PM me and I'll send you my phone number and we can discuss in detail if needed. I also have a spreadsheet I put together with all the necessary parts.
Dont commit until you've weighed all the options. Good luck on whatever route you go.

Both 96
I agree to the sell both and get what you want that way also
But just in case I got bored and wanted something to do I'd like to know what I was getting into
I think any project could be fun! The bottom line is that you have to be honest with yourself, your skill set, and your patience with this type of project. You don't want to end up with two dismantled cars and you can't enjoy either! It is way too easy to get in over your head.
