So im looking to upgrade my computer in 85 for soon motor upgrades. (They are not what's in question so please keep it to the part in question)
Now my 90 has the speed density sensor and obviously it has a bigger section infront of the throttle body so you don't get the restrictions of the little maf on my 85.
Would it be worth my time to put a speed density sensor on my modified 85 or to just have a larger maf?
Takes big power before the MAF becomes a restriction. MAF is a bit more forgiving when it comes to mods so it may be easier to tune.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Here's another question (hypothetical)
If I were to start to build up my 90 would it be more beneficial to swap to a maf for the sake of easing the tuning or does it not affect it enough to spend the extra money?
Also is there any sites that you know of that describe how a speed density works?

Is not just a sensor change.
Going to SD requires the whole ECM / wiring / etc

Depending on your build you are going to need a custom tune on either so little benefit in ripping the ECM and wiring out to go to the MAF setup

No, speed density is very tuneable. Lots of guys have swapped a 165 ECM into the 85s. It is well documented and not that complicated.

Really depends on how outrageous the mods are. If its a big cube motor with an aggressive cam, you'll have an easier time tuning it with the updated ECM/harness and SD setup, considering the 85's computer.
Not going to get anything with an aftermarket larger MAF sensor.
