After rebuilding the engine, now a 383 stroke, I put 2151 hooker headers on it. I bought the y pipe, 16720hkr, even though it is for 86's + because some said it would work on an 84. I cannot get it to fit. It is about 1.5" too narrow and one side is 1" too long or the other side 1" too short depending on which one you connect first. It also does not have the flange to mate with the cat converter.
Has anyone modified this y pipe to make it fit? Another option I am considering is buying the hooker reducer kit (P/N 11030hkr) and having a fab shop cut and weld them to my old y pipe.
Also, the front hanger bracket for the y pipe (GM P/N 14047734) is rusted bad and not usable. Every where I search it says "not available". Has anyone found a replacement?
I ran 2151s on my 84. I recall having to have a shop cut and paste the y pipe to fit the headers. Gotta use your imagination. Have them cut the cat mounting flange off your original y pipe and graft it onto the new one.
