I checked my fuel level sender by opening the hatch so I could see the dash and then moving the sender and watching the display. The output of the sender is heavily filtered to prevent the display from bouncing when fuel is sloshing around in the tank so you have to wait a few seconds for it to catch up to a change in the fuel level sender.
Typical issue!
When you pull the pump assy out of the fuel tank - inspect and clean the copper wires for the sender. Then use an ohm meter and move it through its range (IIRC should be 0 - 90 ohms) if its not you can add a resistor to bring it back. There are several old posts on what to look for and how to clean the wires and how to calculat the resistance for an additional resistor. Don't break or otherwise damage the thin copper wires!
Ill give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion it looks like an easy job. I also got a new gasket.
