I had to do my drivers side joints a couple of months ago. The only machine shop available on Saturday charged me $80 to press the old ones out and the new ones in. I could have bought a press from Harbor Freight for that and then would have the tool to do the other side and more later.

Just a thought.
Worth mentioning for sure !! That was certainly a serious hit for 2 only. That price is more than some drive-line shops charge for an install of two and a balance of a drive-shaft. No reason to balance the half-shafts.
thanks kids. Guess I should have clarified. I'm doing the half shafts.
We have machine shop at work. I got the U joints. MOOG 231.
Haven't opened them to see about straps. Good info.
Off to work.
Those MOOG u-joints are pretty nice. Made in the USA too.
I just bought and installed 2 MOOG joints in the drive shaft in my 84 drag car an they are holding up great so far. I compared evey joint the local parts house (Advance Auto) had, before I bought them. I think the MOOG is definatly the best alternative if you can't get the Spicer u-joints local.

The shop is in Los Gatos (high $$ area) plus in Kalifornia, plus the Corvette tax = overcharged.
