Default 93 Aux Fan And Code 32(Help,Please)

Ok, my Service Engine Light keeps coming on. I took it to my machanic. He scaned it for the code. 32 code was detected. I replaced both the EGR Valve/Soleniod. No light for about a month. Now the light comes on again. Again I had it scaned and again code 32 was detected. However, I notice each time the light came on after I replaced both the EGR/Solenoid, my Aux fan is on w/engine at 198-200 degrees. Now, If I'm correct, only the primary fan should only come on once the engine temp has reached 228-230 degrees.

Can someone help with this issue. Oh by the way, I've changed the engine coolant temp senor as well.

Thanks

Is the A/c on ?
You haven't got a Aux fan ; you have main and Sec fans
The main fan runs at the engine temp you state and Sec fan runs with A/c on ; at any engine temp
The sec fan will also run with A/c off if engine temp goes over a certain temp

Thanks for your response VetteOZ,

Actually my A/C's not wrking at this time. I'm not sure if it's just my clutch, compressor, or both.

The sec fan seems to run/come on at randum with cool temp of 200 degrees and that's when the service engine light comes on. However, ea time I've had the ECM scand, code 32 come up. As I've mentioned, I've replaced both the EGR Valve and Soleniod as well as both the coolant temp sendor and engine coolant temp sensor.

So at this point, I'm stomped...It's very annoying...

could be the ECM is going bad also...like a quad driver module will usually cause a repeated code.

I thought that as well tahoemedic. However, the mechanic stated he doesn' t think so, due to the fact when he scans for the troubled code, he states the ecm is reading all codes correctly.

Thanks,

I advise checking the whole EGR system manually.

Make sure you've got vacuum to the EGR solenoid.

Apply 12 volts to the solenoid to make sure it's working. If you do this while the engine is idling the idle should get rough when the EGR valve opens. It is a vacuum leak at idle.

You could also use a Mity-Vac or similar to check the EGR valve diaphragm. I had a bad EGR valve right out of the box and I have heard of others who had bad ones new.

The ECM uses the MAP sensor to tell when the EGR valve opens (it changes the pressure in the plenum). Your MAP sensor could be bad.

If not the ECM being the problem, check the EGR tubes at the exhaust manifolds....they aren't a great connection and if one of them is loose in the very least, it will trip a code. also down by the battery should be several small diameter vacuum lines, as well as 2 on the intake. Those hard pre-formed plastic lines crack easily and could be an issue.

Thanks Tahoemedic. I'll start with the vacuum lines. However, the mechanic I used to have the 93 vette smog charged me for so call re-pairing my vacuum lines. He also check to assure I was getting good vac to the EGR/EGR Solenid. However, I'll check again for leaks.
However, can you explain what would cause both the primary and 2ndry fan to come on while driven on the hwy and the egine cool temp is at 200 degrees? That's when the "Service Engine Light" comes on. The light came on again today, while dtiving to work. I pulled over and agin, notice both fans were on. I turned the car off. Waited about 2-3 seconds. Restarted the car and neither the "Service Engine Light" came on, nor did the fans come on.

That's the part that's not making sense to me...

Thanks again..

You need to pull the error codes to tell what's going on:

Thanks for the Info Cliff Harris. I'll try this as well. As mentioned thou, the mechanic did use the test sccanner and code 32 relating to the EGR Valve. Which again, I've replaced both the EGR Valve and Soleniod. However, failed to mentioned that both fans are on when the service engine light comes on not just the 2ndry fan. I've had the engine coolant temp senor replaced about a month or two ago.

Again, I'll try your suggestion as well as Tahoemedic's suggestion with the vaccum hose. Thanks again.

Thanks Mater916..
