My car has a static coolant leak coming from the bottom front of the engine. I cannot see anything coming from the water pump.. or anything by viewing from the top of the motor. When the car is on it leaks faster. The water pump is 2 years old and the motor was rebuilt last year. I really don't think it is coming from the water pump. I am driving a 1990 zf6 383 stroker. I wish there was more info I could give, I have uploaded a picture from it leaking with the car off.
The water pump weep hole is on the top of the pump and behind the pulley, you cant see it. I had a supporting vendor here rebuild my water pump, which was leaking from the weep hole, while they had my car for some other work and a year later it failed again. I bought a new pump from Autozone and 4 years later its still good. Its hit and miss with new and rebuilt parts.
From the picture I would have to guess the water pump area maybe not the weep hole maybe a gasket, run your hand under the weep hole from the top of the motor and see if its wet there. My first AC DELCO water pump only lasted one season, so it can happen.
Any reason not to pressurize the system to find the leak?
You post that "when the car is on, it leaks faster". That is due
to pressure in the cooling system. Many radiator shops will
perform the test for free.
