If the mark on your balancer has moved, making a new mark won't do any good, because once the balancer slips, it breaks loose from the rubber and will continue to slip...Get a new balancer to fix the problem...WW

yes, you can use that to make a new mark but like WW7 said it will just move again unless you replace the balancer.

sorry forgot to say. the balancer is new. but for my motor there is 2 diferent type of harmonic balancer. the 2 of them are identicaly but, the only diferance is the mark is on a diferance position. at the time I get my balancer the mark is not where suposet to be. because i buy the wrong part.

sure I can go out and get the correct harmonic balancer, but after instaling the last one. I will never do that job again

Install the tool. Rotate the engine with a wrench until it stops turning. Mark the balancer.
Back the engine up until it stops turning again & mark the balancer.
Top dead center is exactly between your 2 marks.

Good luck.

Like Churchkey explained.
Just turn slowly, otherwise a hard whack to the piston can cause damage.

For the DIY's
You can gut an old spark-plug.
And thread a long bolt (rounded tip) through the center.

Works just as well and it's adjustable.

It might work. I have seen many heads where the threads only go in deep enough for the spark plug and then the rest on the material in the combustion chamber is unthreaded and the tool will not go in.
