My left headlight motor continues to run for 3-4 seconds after the pod has hit the stops - both ways, opening and closing. The right one quits immediately, as it should.
What causes the motor to shut off? Is there an internal limit switch or does it detect the increase in torque? I haven't found any text on this in the service manual.
sounds like the delrin bushings located underneath of the drive gear inside of the motor. 5 dollar part but what a P.I.T.A! Do a seach on this topic and you will find many posts on this subject.
I'll do that, Aaron. I have seen headlight motors discussed before, but IIRC most of those problems were inoperative motors or motors which shut down prematurely instead of running too long.
Rebuilding stuff like this is my kind of job. I love to take electrical junk apart and make it better than before. I'll even rewind burned-out transformers for a furnace thermostat just to save the ten bucks for a new one! Relay scorched? No problem. Just make new points for it. :D
