Check the ground wire in the light bulb socket. Wiggle it around. When the wire was bad in the column, I could tilt the wheel up and down to make it work.

OK, will do.
If it is wire related, would I still hear the clicking sound coming from the flasher? Because there is no sound coming from it.
I actually had this same problem on another car that I had bought. Had the problem when I drove it home. Turned out to be the wrong bulb had been installed in the socket. An incorrectly installed bulb will cause the same thing, but if the bulbs haven't been tampered with when the problem started, then I'd bet my mortgage its a bad ground / corroded socket. Be sure to check the side markers, too.
the flasher should be right side of dash, you will here it click with the left signal on. One flasher for both sides, if you had a bad ground your bulbs would not work.
I just had this problem last month. It was the ground wire contact where it plugs into the socket. I wiggled it around and it started working. The contact on the end of the wire is bent to provide pressure against the contacts inside the socket. Mine had broke in half. I bought a new socket at Pep Boys for about $10 and cut off the old one and wired in the new one. Problem solved! 30 minute fix. Hope this helps.
