Hey guys, first let me say that if there is a thread directly related to this already, my apologies as I was unable to locate it.
So here it is, I just managed to pick up a built 4L60E and am wanting to swap out my 700r4 in my 88' w/396 stroker. What all will it require to do the swap, I welcome opinions of course! A pre-emptive thanks for all the helpful replies!
I have a 4l60E in my car but its mated to an LS engine. I'm pretty sure you will need a controller because the PCM on the later years controls the trans.

Like a stand alone controller just for the trans? I know that Painless Performance sells a wiring harness to mate the 4L60E with 84-92' throttle body cars. But I imagine it won't work with the factory ecu..
The 1227165 ecm is not capable of operating a 4L60E, so a 3rd party controller must be used. I would think you could rebuild yours with the latest updates for the time and money spent for the other to work.
Great info, I was totally unaware there were controller unit kits that would make the process so simple. I personally don't mind the extra cash for the upgrade. And this is why I have a huge man crush on this forum, thanks guys!
