Default Exhaust question

Would like to change the exhaust on the 85 vette. What is a good muffler to change it out with. Looking for something cheaper. Don't want to spend big money. Let me know what you guys did with a budget. Say under 200

It all depends on your age, straight thru type mufflers sound great (from outside the car as my friends used to say) but the drone will drive you mad. Might be ok for a weekend car but it will get to you..
The cross pipe does nothing to quieten the drone (which happens at the speed to tend to drive at 35, 50 and 60 mph any steady speed)
I ended up taking the newer straight thru mufflers off, and sourced some standard gm mufflers is now back to a more tolerable noise level.

I recommend spending the money on headers, they will give you a great bang for the buck and bring a standard vette from mid 14 sec quarters to mid 13's

If your looking for close to stock http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1985-1990.html

If your looking for a cheap set of mufflers you can go to rockauto an I think they have them for less than $60.00 each.

on my 85, I picked up a set of stock replacements from mid-America. these had the dual functional tailpipes. believe it or not, the sound is pretty throaty, much better than OEM stock. nice fit, easy installation - plug and play. can't remember the cost, but seems they were $80-90 each.

I'm looking for more sound. I believe when my
Uncle had the car he had factory replacements put on. So throaty is better.

I put a Flowmaster Force II Cat-back system on mine. Nice and quiet inside when cruising and sounds great when you get on it. You definitely don't want the drone if you drive it much, unless you like having the windows down all the time.
