I currently have Borla Stingers cat back system. Yes, it works fine but it is loud.
So, what are the best performing exhaust systems that I can get that are going to be as quiet as possible?
I would like to keep it flowing as good as it does with the current system but as quiet as possible. If I lose performance, I will stick with the Borla Stingers. If it is a push and it is quieter, I will look into it. If it can flow more and be quieter, even better.

Hi aklim,
I'm glad you're enjoying the "S-Type" exhaust so much. If you're looking to quiet down, our "Touring" exhaust will tone you down and has the same flow/performance benefits as the louder S-Type system.
We use straight-through mufflers on all our products so you're not robbed of power. Depending on what model year your C4 is, we offer several "Touring" parts. Take a look at our part# 11376 or p# 11579 if yours is 1984-1991. Our part# 14385 if good for the 1992-1996 Corvettes.
If all else fails, give us a call at 805-2986-8600 and we'll get your taken care of. Thanks & happy motoring!

With performance will come a louder system, though you know this. However, if you find something else I'd be happy to take the Borla system off of your hands; I have Flow Masters 50 with the intermittent muffler (????) deleted by the PO. Loud as S^%$

We'll see. If I can replace just the mufflers like Kriggans seems to be suggesting, then that will be what I am getting rid of. OTOH if I went with a totally different system, then I will be trying to get rid of the whole thing pipes and muffler.
How much RWHP will the stock LT1 system support? I'm not sure what your 91 does but that definitely sounds like it has been tweaked with a lot. Also, what sort of steel does it come with? In winter we have a little road under the carpet of salt. I do drive it when there is no snow on the ground or a bit after a snowfall so if we can get 304 or at least 409 stainless steel it will be great.
BTW, the 304 Borla exhaust seems to hold up pretty well in snow. 409 is fine too but it discolors if that matters to anyone. Every couple of years, I spend $3000 or so to fix the wife's daily driver which picks up rust.

I haven't dynoed yet with the stock LT1 but this LS should be capable of close to 400 RWHP.
I'm not saying go with a stock system what I am saying is take advantage and go with with a 92 and up bigger and badder system on your car. My plan was to make the stock stuff work so I could upgrade to LT1 aftermarket in the future.

CH@Os, I assume that was based on a stock ZR1. Also, I wonder how much the 4-5 lbs actually hurts power, ie what would be the increase if the muffler was eliminated.
FWIW on my car in my signature, I still have the stock exhaust, eliminated the cats due to LT headers, and currently have magnaflow mufflers. But I still have the factory resonator in place.
AKLIM, personally I think the best bang for the buck, is the factory LT1 system. Its 2.75 in pipes, and I have yet to see any difference in power between the stock system and aftermarket. Aftermarket looks nicer and some like the sound better. But performance wise there is little if any difference.

You keep saying that!...............I think this should be seriously tested!

AND PUTTING DOWN 460+RWHP thru an automatic with a 3000RPM stall.
This is one of the most powerful normally aspriated, street driven LT1 engines on this board and he's running the stock pipes, stock resonator with a Magnaflow axle back....
I have no idea what else can pass for proof that despite all it's precieved flaws the factory LTX exhaust system dosen't hurt performance on a high HP engine.

I totally agree Will, I'd just like to see the same car, and this is a good example of said car, change out stock exhaust to aftermarket (doesn't matter who) and perform back to back runs to show that the numbers really support this.

I have LT headers from TPIS and a stock style cat from Random Technologies and after that the Stinger exhaust from Borla. The exhaust comes out of the cat and does a "Y" split into 2 round Stinger mufflers. No resonator or anything else besides that list. So, assuming (and I can't see why not) it all bolts up, what do you think I would have to pay for such a system, realistically speaking?
I payed $100 for a factory take off 93 cat back system. I am running no cats at the moment and they are mated to factory 98 corvette manifolds. Un fortunately its going to be a while before I can make it to a dyno.
