I installed these GT mufflers from Corvette Central last weekend. I didn't want to say anything until I had something to report.
AWESOME!!!
Nice burble at idle. Controlled loud during hard acceleration and quiet down at speed. I tried them all the way up to 97 mph. I slowed down after that because I was in a 45mph zone. LOL. zero cars on that remote road.
My old flowmasters were just cans, everything inside rotted away.
I was a bit afraid of eliminators so these being small glass packs were a compromise. Glad I got them. Plus they look good.

That was the first style of muffler that went on my C4. With 6 iterations of exhaust configs (on two cars), I finally realized that most canister-style mufflers cause drone. Glass packs, chambered pipe, and these resonated tips are the way to go.
Magnaflow's muffled x-pipe is pretty good too. Probably because more of the sound stays in the pipe? And, they have packing.

I think the "key" really is the muffled x-pipe and the additional x-pipe right infront of it. The magnaflow (out of the box) really canceled out the drone I was experiencing with my previous setup.
With that said, I too have been considering eliminators for my recently acquired 91'.
10+ years ago I also had these as my first set of aftermarket mufflers. They sounded pretty good, but I was not impressed with their durability. In less then two years they rusted so severely that I could have punched through several spots with a screwdriver. This was on a car that doesn't see bad weather and lives in a garage. I took them off and started my seemingly neverending exhaust journey. I finally went to Corsas last year (after countless configurations) and I am no longer searching.
If you want great sound and no drone you should check out our Fusion system for C4. It is a bi-modal system - like the NPP option on the C6. The mufflers incorporate butterfly valves that direct exhaust through a "loud side" or "quiet side". The valve is actuated by a driver controlled switch. When you want an aggressive exhaust sound use the loud side. For keeping it quiet, and for no-drone cruising set the system to the "quiet side". You can learn more about it at http://www.bbexhaust.com/car/corvette/c4fusion/

I had them on my 86. Less than 3 years, one of the hangers rusted off. They did sound good.

Jon,
For that kind of money, I would rather deal with the drone.

When I eliminated the rear mufflers, I really didn't care for the note and resonance. I then went the Magnaflow true-x cannister dual in/out to replace the stock resonator. Much, much better. Even w/o cats it's still a low rumble, no resonance, no drone, and at WOT it's all Chevy small block. No x-pipe in front either. 7 years later, I still love it.
