No I couldn't pull the trigger, and it took them almost 2 months to work up a quote for the job. I was really concerned that I wouldn't be happy with the ride height with out cutting up the floor. Then I would have had to cut the floor to install the cross member. So I had the Sommer's Brothers spindles made as my next step to keep the IRS.

..... RKLESSDRIVER ... thanks for the D44 encouragement ... I'd really like to keep the IRS ... for now I'm hitting 1.46-1.52 60's .... I keep losing carriers when the posi clutches give up and the spiders get welded in ... I have a spool on the shelf and have been fishing for a good case on here for a while ... soon as I can snag one up , I'll get it all down to the machine shop ... I want to do it up in a case to get the axle retaining bolts positioned properly ... and the plan included a piece of aluminum bar stock between the axles just like you mentioned ... the other option I want to try is an Eaton True-trac to see if that cures the posi clutch thing ... but its over $800 bucks and I can get 3 new loaded Spicer carriers for that ... Also have an 8.8 Ford F150 rear on the floor sizing it up ... if I'm going to go live axle I'll have to do it myself ... 5-7 thousand dollars is WAY more than this car is worthy of ... for that kind of dough I'll buy up a chassis car roller ......

The only thing about the solid rear is if you want the vette to sit low in the rear, you must cut the rear cargo space out. I had a rear in my vette and it cost me $3500. I had a 9" rear built for $ 2400 with brakes, and 31 spine axle, the posi was a stock rebuild.
The rear is a true bolt in. You can put a solid rear in a C4 without cutting the cargo area, but it need to be a 10 or 12 bolt. If you put a 9" in you will need to cut, a small piece from the top of the ABS compartment.

No, it is not a kit. I had a vendor that comes to Etown Raceway, for the swap meets, make a rear to 63'' and gave him the measurement of were to put the mounting brackets. I also made a crossmember for it. I broke the spider gears in the rear.(doing a burn out and not making sure both wheels were spinning, it will hammer the gear) I bolted my IRS back in so I could run points in the CC at Etown and finish the season. I ended up moving to Texas and leaving the car with my son in N.J.

..... The kits that I have discovered seem to favor the GM 12 bolt rear ... I currently have a Ford 8.8 ... but if I'm starting with a clean slate , should I go for the gusto and get a Dana 60 ? or maybe something else ? any opinions ? ... and Why .......... keep in mind that this car will see the street and drag strip ... it will likely never see a road course or auto cross ........
