Yesterday at autoxing I was taking my first run and was not able to slow down in the corners so I took it back to the trailer to inspect it. Checked the front brakes first and to my surprise both calipers jumped the set pin and were just hanging loose. Only thing I can think of is there were no clips on the bottom of the pads to hold them in securely. Any opinions appreciated.
I bought hardware ( pins and clips) when I did my calipers. The clips were definitely weaker and bent very easily, so I reused the existing stock ones.
The pins I bought also seemed of softer steel, not as good as the stock ones. Maybe your clips where a bit bent and jumped out with the pressure.

If you were running at Marina, I saw you leave the course after your run, and wondered why......
I was at Marina and it was a great course. To put it lightly I was quite upset not being able to run, like being at the beach with some great rollers coming in and not having my board.

I have had this happen a few times. What is happening is; if you look at where the notch in the pad mount rest against the retainer pin you will notice that the pad is just barely held in by the pin. Here is what I do. On one side, I reverse the anti chatter clips from the bottom of the pad to the top. This pushes the pad down against the caliper bracket. You may even have to hammer, use a rubber mallet, not a steel hammer to force it in to be able to push the retainer pin in. This will make a very tight fit. It will not slip past the pin. If you just cannot reverse the anti chatter clips, then you can wrap the retainer pin with a lot of duck or electrical tape and that will hold. But the best choice is to reverse the anti chatter clips. Now the best permanent fix is new caliper backets. I think over time the retainer pins just wear against the bracket and causes the pin to sit a little lower, low enough to allow the caliper to slip on past the pin. The sorta safety catch if your racing is that the wheel will only allow the caliper to come out so far, at least with 17" wheels. For those running larger diameter wheels, not sure what would happen.
I had the clips on the top and it just seemed to force it down and out more even though they seemed very tight. I think I will try putting the clips on the top and bottom. This just started happening when I put the HT-10 pads on so it's kinda strange. It does seem like the pins are sitting lower.

Maybe the pads are slightly too short or you need new brackets. I can only get the anti-chatter clips on top on one side. The other side is just too tight. I do run only Hawk HP+ pads. I plan to get new brackets this winter. I happen to come across them at Corvette Central. Good luck.
Didn't have a problem with the hp+ just the ht-10. Also I found a pin in my parts box and when I measured it I found it to be a bit larger in diameter than the pin on the car. I'm just going to take it all apart and play with it, there has to be a reason for this. Bty the plate size on all the pads is the same. The brackets are an idea but it seems hard to believe they would wear down.
Did you do a brake upgrade to J55 calipers rs? When I swapped mine, I disassembled the calipers (the new to me j55)to clean and paint. I also changed rubber piston seals. When I wad putting them together and assembling the pads, I saw the the pins were a bit looser than before, and then I realized that the smaller stock brake calipers had smaller (tiny difference in diameter) than the j55. Could have been that mine had been changed on a previous brake job by the po, no idea really, but they were certainly thinner. Just a thought.
