Default RPM range !

What RPM should my Corvette be at when traveling at 65 MPH while in overdrive ? I have the automatic transmission. My car is currently hitting 2400-2600 in overdrive at 65 MPH. I have a feeling that there is a problem with my TV cable but I am not sure if my transmission is reaching that final overdrive gear.

That sounds a little high, my 90 with a 6 speed is at about 2k, it could be you have a performance axle, check your RPO codes I believe the code is GU8 performance rear

If the tach is reading correctly and you have the stock (automatic 2.59 or 3.07?)rear gear ratio and stock tire height your probably not hitting overdrive.

use this link
choose the 1993-97 a4 f-body, plug in your rear gear ratio and tire size and you will see where your tach should be showing.

http://www.f-body.org/gears/

When you are driving a steady 65 what does the tach do when you move the shifter from OD to D?

I wonder if his converter is locking up? Put a scanner on it, and see if it is seeing MPH, and torque converter lockup. 89 an older could see speed at the dash, but possibly not the ecm.

My car has only 11,600 miles on it. I feel as though the overdrive is not kicking in. Someone told me that there could be a kink or problem with the TV cable which controls the overdrive to engage.

The tach only changes at lower speeds when shifting from Drive to Overdrive, but if I am driving at 65 or higher and with the transmission in overdrive and then shift to drive the RPM stays the same.

My 85 with 3.07 diff and 275 40 17 tires runs 1,900 rpm at 62 mph in overdrive, with the converted lock off will run up to 2,100 rpm uphill.
Hope this helps you.

with that combo and knowing that drive is 1to1 ratio at 65 in drive should be 2600rpm.

i belive overdrive is like .8to1 ratio so 2000-2100rpm and lockup will cut that down about 200 rpm or so ... hmm or is od .7, cant remember atm but .1 wouldnt be much diff anyhow.

seems gerardvg is pretty close
